Selfie campaign raises awareness of tiger’s plight

With over 1.9 billion monthly active users on Facebook and 700 million on Instagram*, using social media channels to get your message out there should not be underestimated, especially when it’s for a good cause.

08A recent campaign harnessing the power of social media sees Tiger Beer collaborating with WWF. The digital campaign is set to help raise awareness of the plight of tigers in the wild at the hands of illegal trade.

With around 3,890 tigers left in the wild today – which is a massive drop of 96 per cent – ‘uncage art to fight illegal tiger trade’ is getting people involved through Tiger-inspired art. People can upload a selfie to www.3890Tigers.com and the site will generate the selfie into unique artwork. Nick Gentry from the UK is one of the six leading artists whose artistic style is reimagined automatically to create artwork utilising the selfie. Then users can share their selfie art via social media channels using the hashtag #3890Tigers.

There’s so many clever facets to this awareness raising campaign including the website name and encouragement to share with a specific hashtag, but what’s key is the use of unique visual content. Whether big brand or local business, the use of imagery will really help your digital campaign stand out from the crowd.

SEO trend predictions for 2015

So 2015 is upon us and this looks like to be another exciting year in the world of online marketing. Well, when we say “exciting” it is for us at Smart Cow Marketing. But maybe not for those of you who like skydiving or running with the bulls in Pamplona. But for us it floats are very, very well, call us sad that this is what we really like.

Anyway, enough of our own inadequacies in being able to jump out of an airplane. Let’s look at what can get your business noticed on search engines in 2015.

In a nutshell, we can see that the search engines are going to continue on their drive to make search engine results as realistic as asking a real person over the phone. We can see the goal maybe five years’ time when most searches are done through talking to your technology. This is still a bit awkward for us today, but it’s becoming more popular.

So as well as keywords placed into the search, the search engines have also been to taking into consideration your location and also your own personal preferences of what you have searched for in the past and also what you’ve searched for in the immediate past. So your search may be “what is a California pizza?” And the results might come up with a menu on how to make this type of pizza. If your next search is where I can buy one of these, currently your results will show you one of many things to buy. But as the search engines get more intelligent, they will realise that you are talking about a California pizza place that’s in the search results.

The search engines will continue in their quest to remove black hat techniques in front of all the search engine results. So such as far too high density of keywords within a webpage or having far too many artificial links pointing to your website will continue to be penalised. They will also look at rewarding more and more sites that have got good relevant and fresh content placed onto the pages.

It will be interesting to see how much Google will still place businesses having a Google plus page, even though it is still not popular. We think that this is still going to be a factor moving forward. Whether this is just for the benefit of Google places and for reviews or if they will start taking into to more consideration content placed on your Google plus page is yet to be seen. But being Google. I’m sure they will try and push it much as they can.

We can see the use of video becoming more relevant this again, partly because Google owns the largest video sharing platform, YouTube and therefore can easily link the number reviews the video to your website.

There is loads of advice we can give in order to help ensure that your site is optimised and your business works well, however the most important bit would just to be as natural as you can with regards to placing great content and building good links to your site.

Top five predictions from Smart Cow Marketing

Welcome to 2013!  With the knowledge that changes are happening at an ever-increasing rate it is very difficult to predict what will happen in the next 12 months, however here are our views on the significant changes ahead in 2013 from an online marketing point of view.

1. Google+ will start to increase its percentage of the social media market. However, this will mainly be for businesses as the individual will continue to use Facebook and twitter is the main social media.  Google+ we’ll be increasingly more powerful as it will have a higher ranking within the sites SEO and so online marketing companies such as smart cow will continue to recommend for businesses have a Google plus presents.

2. Google will continue to show its dominance as the number one search engine.  This sounds like what an obvious choice however there is so much competition online that we see that this will not always be the case. With different ways of searching and different operating systems we can see that the Google will lose its power but not in the immediate future. We see new search from Facebook and the rise of Windows 8 phones will impact on Google eventually.

3. Mobile sites will become more and more important to businesses. Now that mobile products now overtake the desktop as the main ways to connect to the Internet businesses will need to ensure that their sites on mobile enabled. This can be either by a mobile site or through a responsive skin to the existing site. Either way businesses we’ll have to be paying more attention to the mobile market.

4. Google AdWords will become more and more mainstream for businesses.  The AdWords entry level will become much easier for the introduction of keywords free adverts.  However, to get a truly world performing AdWords campaign businesses will need to rely more and more on online marketing companies. As the complexity and the competition will be just as tough as organic search engine optimisation.

5. Local search will take place of the high street. With the recession still taking a grip, businesses will rely more and more on a local presence, the easiest way of being found in the local search is through Google local. This also relies very closely to the Google+ pages one enabling people to provide for the use of your business online increasing the chances of you been pounds in a search.

We’ll return at the end of the year to see how these predictions have gone and what lies ahead for 2014 for which we are already excited as we’re waiting the release of all Google and windows classes integration augmented reality into your everyday life.

Let us know your thoughts on these predictions are and if you have any predictions of your own. And come back soon.
